Gone Fishin'

by Sarah on July 31, 2007 at 07:27

The week (okay, actually NINE DAYS!) that I have been dreading for a while is here...Travis is on vacation fishing with buddies while Harry and I are fending for ourselves!  He has been gone since early Friday morning.  I will have to say though that the only really hard day was Friday and since then we have been getting along fine.  For some reason, Oscar must have been in a bad mood and kept growling at Harry for no apparent reason. Harry was hanging all over him, but that's no different than any other day.  Then the little guy proceeded to have 4 really nasty diapers and refused to stop playing in the dogs' waterbowl.  I was really frustrated, so by the early evening I packed up the baby, myself, and the dogs and headed to my mom's!  We spent sometime with her and then Harry and I went to Travis's Granny's and spent the night with her, Rob and Linda who were in town for the race.  I am lucky that I have had some help this week.  My mom came over to watch him Sunday while I went to the race with Rob, Linda, Chris and Kirsten, and Katrina offered to watch him late yesterday and today while I worked since Travis wouldn't be around to pick him up!  Hooray for good friends and family!

A few random pics of Harry doing his 2 favorite things, playing with my cell phone and reading!

Speaking of the fishing trip, the word from Travis is that the fishing isn't going all that well.  Apparently, it is difficult to catch a lot of fish when it is so hot.  So Travis has only caught one fish, and the threw it back because it was so small!  Scottie caught a big bass that he is planning on mounting (I'm sure Julia will just love that!), but that has been the only highlight so far.  I hope they aren't craving a big fish dinner because it may not happen!

Harry and I leave for Washington DC tomorrow to spend a few days with Juliana and Ricky.  I feel a little bit crazy for traveling by myself with a toddler, but it is a pretty short flight so hopefully it will go well.  I was a little worried about how I was going to get from the car to the terminal with all of our stuff (suitcase, carseat, and Pack 'n Play for him to sleep in) with baby in tow, but Mom is coming over to take us so I'll have an extra pair of hands!  I have never been to DC so I am looking forward to seeing all of the landmarks.  It will be so great to spend some time with Juli too!  I haven't seen her since her wedding almost 2 years ago.  Please think good traveling thoughts for us!!

Happy 15 Months, Harry!

by Sarah on July 20, 2007 at 06:24

For Harry's 15 month birthday on Tuesday, Harry got the wonderful gift of having a well baby checkup and a side order of 3 shots!  Poor little guy!  He handled it really well, and the doctor even said she usually can't hear 15 month old kids' heartbeats through the stethoscope because they are usually crying too hard.  I will have to say though, I don't think I have ever seen him cry so hard as he did when he got this last round of shots!  It was hard for me to not cry myself.  He was fine though by the time we got out to the check out desk.  Here are his stats:

  • Weight:  23 lbs (40th percentile)
  • Height:  31 3/4 inches (85th percentile)
  • Head:  48 cm (75th percentile)

I was really surprised by his weight!  He has only gained 13 ounces over the last 3 months.  The doctor still did not seem worried about it and I hope it is just because he is so very active.  All in all, the doctor said he was perfect and I think I will have to agree!

Tuesday was also our 3 year anniversary!  We didn't do much that day since we both had to work and take Harry to the doctor.  We did make it down to our neighborhood Mexican restaurant and to Dairy Queen to celebrate a little.  However, last night Travis and I had our "real" anniversary dinner at Oceanaire!  It was delicious, but we both felt a little weird going out without the little guy.  I'm not used to eating my meal without having to tend to Harry's meal as well.  Jen and Jason graciously agreed to watch Harry for us while we went to dinner, and it sounds like he had a blast with them and the twins.  Maybe it will help them decide that they can handle another little one!!

We hope you like our new blog!  My friend Kelly from college has a very generous and computer savvy husband, Ryan, who set up this whole thing for us!  It is way more awesome looking, and hopefully more reliable and private than Blogger!  Thanks again, Ryan!

IKEA = Love!

Did ya miss me??

Okay...I have officially achieved slacker status! I am finding it hard to tear myself away from summertime life to blog! But I'll continue to use my usual excuse...we have been busy!! Let's track all the way back to the 4th of July week. That Monday we hosted a going away party for our house church friends, The Fogertys. It was a little stressful getting our house ready for about 30 people, especially since our housekeeper situation fizzled out (sniff, sniff!). I always worry about what people will think of our home the first time they see it...I know I shouldn't, but I do. Anyway, I think it went really well, and I hope everyone had a nice time. We will miss the Fogerty's a lot...they are a great Christian family who taught us a ton about what it means to be faithful in every way. Lori was a big part of making me love and latch on to our church and I will always be grateful to her for that!

Aunt Jamie, I don't like my flotation device!

The next morning we left for our favorite vacation spot, Nana and Poppy's house in Tennessee!! Our trip this time was a little different in that Jamie, Payton, and Janson came along! All 6 of us packed into the minivan and headed out! We did the usual--swam, ate (a lot!), and were generally spoiled by Rob and Linda's impeccable hospitality! As usually Harry did extremely well on the trip, never cried and whined only a little bit. Not bad for a 7 hour trip each way! There was another twist to our trip this time as well--we went down to Atlanta to a place I have wanted to go to for a long time--IKEA!! It was quite the experience, and we absolutely loved it! In fact, I think we spent over 4 hours there! We got 2 bookcases, a table and rug for Harry's play room, and a few other odds and ends for our house. We could have bought so much more, but we just didn't have the room to bring the stuff home. Some people even had rented U-Hauls to get all of their purchases home! It was so funny! I can't wait for another opportunity to go there again---cool home furnishings for not much cash! That's right up my alley! We also had a Left, Right, Center night (we played 4 times, Travis won twice!!) and a coloring contest almost every night (Payton's idea--I tied for first one night out of sympathy I think). We had lots of fun with everyone and we can't wait to come back when Sara finally has little Brady!

Harry in his new Ikea tunnel

I love Ikea!

The Monday after we got back, I took Harry to the barber shop for his 3rd haircut. This time he sat in the chair all by himself and he did really great. Hardly a whimper! His hair, after a very slow start, grows like a weed now! It had only been 4 weeks since his last cut! He even let her cut part of it with electric trimmers. He must have been worn out from all of the weekend's activities because he took a marathon nap that afternoon! Sadly it was back to work the next day for me.

This weekend, Travis has been an absolute workhorse! We had a ton of mulch delivered yesterday and he re-mulched all of our flower beds (I only helped a little while Harry was napping). We got a dark chocolate mulch this time and it looks really great. We then went over to help Nate and Krista move a few things (who, by the way, welcomed an adorable baby girl, Mary, on June 30th) to their inbetween house. They are building a new home that won't be ready until November, and their house sold in less than a month! So they are renting a house until their new one is done...moving twice with a newborn, the thought makes me shudder!! Since Trav is a little sore, we are taking it easy today, watching the race and getting ready to cook out tonight.

Don't believe the story my mom is about to tell you!

Two cute (well one is not so cute) about Harry before we sign out. He has started saying "No!" and "No, no!"...I wonder if it is because that is the word he hears the most??! It is pretty cute, every question we ask him, no matter what it is, gets answered with a shake of the head and a "no!" Then on Friday when I went to pick Harry up from Katrina's, the kids were so excited to see me because they were dying to tell me what Harry had done that day. Katrina had put him down for his nap and left his shorts off. You guessed it...he had figured out how to take his diaper off and had fingerpainted the crib with poo. I about died. My angelic child do something so disgusting?? I was secretly glad that she had to deal with that and not me! No more diaper-only naps for Harry!
