Mom?...Mom?...MOM??!!

Mom, do yo think you could speed up my order a little??

I have come to realize that there is a distinct difference between a sweet "Mama" and a demanding "MOM!". Do 13 month old kids really say Mom already? Did we have to go straight from Mama to Mom?? What happened to Mommy?? The other day I was pouring a cup of milk for Harry and I guess he wanted it really bad. He was standing beside me saying Mom? Mom? MOM!! Demanding! The milk can only pour so fast, Kiddo! I'll have to admit though, it was pretty stinkin' cute!

Trying a little too hard to get a book!!

We have been pretty busy over the last week or so! Our good friend Molly finished her doctorate this spring and graduated over Mother's Day weekend. We trekked up to Purdue country to her party, which was Harry's first trip to Lafayette! We didn't have a chance to head to campus to check out any sights though. The next day, of course, was Mother's Day. We (I) had a super day...I got an iPod nano as my gift! I got hooked up by my two favorite guys! And it was hot pink to boot so I know Travis won't try to "borrow" it! We then headed back home to visit all of the Grandmas, and my dad cooked us all dinner. We also managed to fit in an Indians game that weekend...Harry even made it all the way to the end of the game! Travis predicted 4 innings. It was so much fun and the weather was perfect!

Having fun at the game

This past weekend, I had to work Saturday, and Travis and Harry went to little Morley's first birthday party. Harry fell in love with a golf club set that she got as a present. There were many cries when we had to pry it out of his hands to go to the next destination! We then headed to my cousin Seth's high school graduation open house and to visit Granny. Yesterday was also a big day for us...my wonderful boss Kevin worked for me so I could be off, because Harry was dedicated at church! Our chuch doesn't perform baptisms on kids that are too young to decide to follow God, so they do a child dedication ceremony where the parents and congregation commit to rasing the children as Christians. It was really cool and we got to do it with 4 other families. I am so glad we stumbled upon Northeast...it has changed our lives so much for the better!!

After the dedication ceremony

Harry continues to become so confident in his walking/running skills! He loves, LOVES to be chased! He gets so excited and squeals with delight! He can also do some things when asked. My favorite task? Giving hugs! He loves to give hugs and sometimes kisses. I even caught him giving Callie a big hug yesterday! It was so cute. I also am starting to suspect he is trying to say some more words and I just didn't realize it. Yesterday morning when I was fixing him breakfast, I gave him a cup of milk and I could've sworn he said "Milk"! Then yesterday afternoon I asked him to go pick out a book to read and think he said "Book"! We have also thought he tries to say "dog" but it sounds a lot like "Da" as in Dada. Katrina said today that he saw her son Michael and said something that sounded like his name. So I think he is at least really paying attention to what we all say and it trying to repeat it. His little voice is so sweet...I can't wait to hear more new words!!

See you guys later!!

The Easiest Day Ever

The Resident Wild Man!

There are not many days in the life of parenthood that you can say are effortless, especially when you have a one year old. Although I know I am extremely blessed by a very happy-go-lucky kid, it still is a lot of work to keep him happy and things running smoothly. Last Friday, I can easily exclaim, was one of the easiest days I have experienced during my first year as a mom. It started off with Harry sleeping in until 10 am! That was the first miracle of the day considering, well, when does that ever happen (??) and they are currently building a house next door to us along the same side that his nursery is on. He got up and dressed, had some breakfast, and we were off to eat lunch with Daddy. He wasn't too interested in eating since he had breakfast so late. After lunch, we were going to stop at Target for a few things, but Mr. Sleepyhead conked out in the car on the way back home. So, I decided to go to Target later and take him back home for his nap. I got him out of his carseat, up the stairs while taking his shoes and jacket off, and in his crib without waking him up. This was at 12:30pm. He didn't wake up until 3:45pm!! By the time he got up and had "lunch", Travis was home for the day! It was so wacky. I'll have to say, however, I was pretty lonely for that long stretch of time. I miss my wild man when he's not around!

I forgot to mention in my last post that Harry can stand up on his own without pulling up on something. It is a pretty cute sight to see...baby bum straight up in the air! He is trying out his speedwalking skills! I swear he can get around faster than I can at times! I also picked up our family/12 month picture proofs today...they turned out fabulous! I am going to have a hard time picking them out!

Enjoying a beautiful, sunny day!

I love my activity table!

To sort of counteract my above story of parental bliss, here's a good one for you. This morning after I got out of the shower, I took Harry into the nursery to change him and dress him for the day. His diaper was dirty and it was taking me a while to get him all cleaned up. I didn't know it, but he had gotten some poo on his hand. I saw it and grabbed a wipe to clean it off. Too late! My eyes traveled up to his cute as a button face only to see his forehead marred with a streak of poo across his forehead!! He was even rubbing his eyes and everything. I tried not to think of all the different kinds of bacteria that might be swimming around in there just looking for the right spot to start an infection. So it was off to the bath we went. Just lovely!! I still love him dearly, poo head and all!!
The kids at daycare made Mother's Day cupcakes!

Toddlerhood

by Sarah on May 3, 2007 at 06:49
Our transition into toddlerhood is nearly complete (gulp!)! I think it would be safe to say that Harry is walking more than he is crawling now. We are down to 1 bottle of formula a day, and that will be history as soon as we finish off the can. I am also not buying anymore baby food, just using up what we already have. Crazy, huh? He is doing so well though. I thought the transition to milk would be harder, but it wasn't really difficult at all. He chugs the milk just like the formula with no problems or complaints. We had a few rough mornings when I plopped him in the highchair for some milk and oatmeal with fruit instead of a bottle and a cuddle, but now he is content with a big boy breakfast!

A new favorite activity...shaking the baby gate bars

Let me outta here! I'm a big boy now!!

Last Thursday, we went to a studio to have Harry's 12 month pictures and a family picture taken. Harry did great! He smiled a lot and stayed in a good mood the whole time. I was a little worried how it would go because he gets a little shy around strangers sometimes but he warmed up quickly. Harry was such a ham part of the time, I think they are going to turn out perfectly. I would already have the proofs by now, but I had forgotten something that I wanted to have Harry's picture on, so Dave let us come back for a few minutes yesterday morning to finish them up. We should have the proofs back early next week, so I can't wait to see them!!

We stopped by to see the Forest Ridge gang yesterday since they hadn't seen Harry in a long time and we had some extra time before I had to get to work. Harry had his first taste of candy (a sucker--not a big fan) and some M & M's. He didn't like the M & M's at first, but once he ate one, he became a fan! He did manage to get my scrubs dirty with the wonderful red candy coated shell. That's okay though, Brian got a kick out of giving him a sugar high for the day!

Travis and I are going on a date tonight! I think I can honestly say this is the first time we have gone out to dinner by ourselves since Harry came along! We have gone to some Colts games together, but I don't know if those count as dates or not. We are going to go to the Melting Pot...this will be the 4th attempt for us to go there! Hopefully it will work out this time! Uncle Chris is coming over to watch Harry. They will have so much fun together! The current message series at our church is called Marriage Exposed, just basically talking about how hard marriage can be sometimes and your spousal relationship is usually the one that suffers most when life gets so crazy. So Travis planned tonight as a surprise!! Too bad the series ends this Sunday...just kidding. I can't complain too much about my life these days!
