Harry Gets an A+

Another well-baby check and another perfect report for Harry! Here are his latest stats:

  • Weight: 22 lbs, 3 oz (50-60th percentile)

  • Height: 31 inches (90th percentile)

  • Head: 47 cm (75th percentile)

Still tall and thin like his Daddy! The doctor said he looked great and gave him an A+, my favorite grade! She also gave him the okay to eat anything that isn't a choking hazard, so that means we can have scrambled eggs, PB & J sandwiches, anything his heart desires. So this is what we had for lunch...

Peanut butter & jelly with milk! It doesn't get much better than that, does it?! I forgot to mention in the last monster post that we are slowly starting to switch from formula to whole milk. I love it...good nutrition that is MUCH cheaper too!

Whirlwind!

Whew! What a week we had! It is hard to know where to begin with this one...I guess first of all, our "baby" Harrison is one! Where did the time go?? It is so amazing to see how much the little guy has changed in 365 days. He has nearly tripled his body weight, is a crawling champ, is improving daily on his walking abilities, the list could go on and on! I can't express how much we love him and how much he has enriched our lives. What a ride we are on...I can't wait to see what is in store for us this coming year!!

Who would have thought that this sweet baby...

...would turn into this sweet baby in 365 days??

Yeah! My car seat can turn around now!!

Now, onto the vacation! We left last Saturday for Sanibel Island and we had an awesome time! The plane ride down went really well. Harry got fussy a few times, but nothing that wasn't manageable. Who could blame him really?? He even slept for a little while! We had no problems getting our luggage, our rental car, with directions...then we get to our resort. We had reserved a condo, but we didn't know that they were individually owned, so the pictures on the internet didn't necessarily reflect what the acutal condo would look like. Don't you think that is something they would have to disclose?? Anyway, we tried to have a positive attitude about it, but while we were eating dinner we decided to try to do something about it. We work so hard when we aren't on vacation, so why shouldn't we have everything the way we want it?? So Travis went to the front desk and talked with the agent about it, he understood and agreed to switch our condo. It was a bigger place, but more of the same. Just outdated, straight out of the 70's decor, not what we wanted. The last straw was when Harry (I love the oblivious nature of kids, he was happier than a pig in poo the whole time) was crawling around the room and ended up with dirt on his hands and knees. No thanks--we have 4 pets and that doesn't happen at our house! We got busy and found a different hotel and moved there. The new hotel was excellent, but it was a little difficult getting Harry to sleep since we were all in the same room. He was like, I know you're in here...why won't you pick me up??

No Shame!

The first few days were a little too windy and chilly to swim, so we spent most of the days doing some shopping and exploring around. The remainder of the time there we enjoyed beautiful weather!! We are the parents of an official beach bum! He absolutely LOVED the ocean! He really likes to be scared (with a good BOO!), so he loved the waves coming up and touching his legs unexpectedly. He cried every time we took him out of the water! The amount of shells that wash up on the beach there is incredible! We loved walking up and down the beach looking at all of the different ones. He also really liked the hotel's wonderful pool...they kept it so warm it felt like bathwater! He got the biggest kick out of seeing other kids play and splash around. It is hard to belive that in a few short years, he will be those kids! The only tourist thing we did the whole time was we visited the nature preserve on the island. We really wanted to see a gator in the wild, but no luck!

Beach Bums!!

Out of all the places we visited, we liked Captiva Island the best. It is so beautiful there and they had the coolest little restaurants. They were really laid back and had excellent food. We took Harry to one of them for his actual first birthday called the Bubble Room. We had heard they had awesome desserts and huge pieces of cake. That is exactly what we needed for the little guy's birthday! It was funny...we met a family there that was staying at the resort we were going to stay at and they said their room was beautiful. Go figure!!

Yesterday on our way home was the only really frustrating time we had. All during the ride to the airport, while we were checking in, and while we were going through security, Harry screamed his head off for no apparent reason. I was so embarrassed. Then to top if off, we realized that when we got our boarding passes they had put us in 3 seats that were not together. Although not sitting with him sounded quite appealing at the time, it wasn't going to work. So Travis got them to change it, but they could only put 2 of us together. Guess who got to sit with Harry?? It ended up working out really well though, this really nice family offered to switch around so Travis could sit behind up without us even asking them. After a really great week, it was good to get back to the comforts of home.

Today we had Harry's birthday party so our friends and family could celebrate together. We had an awesome turnout and Harry got sooooo many toys and clothes. Mom & Dad, Grandma Helen, Granny Clara, Granny Audra, George, Audra, & Aiden, Jamie, Payton, & Janson, Aunt Vicky, Uncle Kevin & Aunt Vickie, Chris & Kiersten, Molly & Barney, Scottie & Julia, Josh, Karen, Collin, & Morley, Esther, Jamie Mc., Krista, and Jen, Jason, Andrew, & Noah were all in attendance! I think everyone we invited was able to come! We had so much fun! Thank you all for loving and caring for our son like you do! I almost teared up when we sang Happy Birthday to him just thinking about how truly blessed we are. We had a little cake made up for him, but he showed no interest in diving into it! I even tried to feed him bites and he didn't want any! Too bad for him...it was delicious!!

No thanks!!

Harry and the Blessingers

Lots of presents!!

Okay, I'll stop for now...I could have gone on a lot more!! Tomorrow is the big 12 month check up day. Birthday party one day, shots the next. Poor little guy!!

First Haircut!

by Sarah on April 13, 2007 at 06:49
We took Harry to get his first haircut last night! I was prepared for a major meltdown especially since we went around dinner time, but it turns out I didn't need to worry at all. He was a perfect angel! They get to pick out a video to watch (we picked Elmo's World) and he was content to sit in his little red car, hold the DVD jacket, and let her snip away at his mini mullet! I think it helped that we were the only customers in the store so there wasn't a lot of chaos. We celebrated by meeting Uncle Chris at El Rodeo for dinner and Harry and I shared some chicken, beans, and rice! So good!

I know...I look so fly!!

We had some storm damage at our house Wednesday night! Travis was feeding Harry some supper, and a huge wind gust came through our backyard, picked up our patio table, carried it across our yard, slammed it back down which broke all of the glass out of it! So now we have a backyard full of glass shards! Mom and Dad are watching Oscar and Callie for us while we are gone, so I am glad we don't have to worry about the dogs being out there for a while! It was pretty odd having a thunderstom when it was 40 degrees outside, but I guess that is Midwest weather for ya!

We are busy doing some massive amounts of laundry and packing for our trip tomorrow. I will try to take tons of pictures and do a huge post when we get back. Our first "real" vacation as a family...I
am so pumped!!

Next stop...Florida!

We Are Suckers!

They just can't say no to me...can you blame them??

I am usually such a stickler about only getting presents on the actualy holiday, birthday, or whatever. Well, not so much anymore! Below you will find pictures of one of Harry's birthday presents! And, um, he got it last week! Darn Amazon.com and their super fast shipping! He was starting to use other not-so-safe objects as walkers, so I thought he *needed* it! This kid has me wrapped around his little fingers!

Lovin' the walker wagon!!

Speaking of walking, Harry is getting better and better each day. He is still a little timid of hard surfaces, but if he is on the carpet, he is ready to go! He has just seemed so un-babylike this week! He gets around so well, and he has been so content just playing by himself! I don't know if he gets his fill of playing with others at daycare or what, but he is doing a great job of keeping himself entertained. He still loves a good cuddle and a book read (usually more like 6 or 7 books). One thing that has not been so great this past week is the emergence of some mini temper tantrums! Don't get me wrong--I am fully aware of what a great baby I have! He has started to really let us know when he is not thrilled. The loud shrills usually come when we take something away from him. One object in particular that he grown a fondness for are water bottle caps. I know, weird! He loves putting the cap on, taking the cap off (as long as it is not screwed on...screwed on caps make baby very angry), and repeating that process for approximately forever. Then when mean Mama or Dada decides the game is over, usually when baby crams lid in his mouth, a hissy fit will surely follow. Over a water bottle lid??! It's actually a little funny...but I would never tell him that!

We had a really nice Easter! I had to work, but Travis and Harry went to church and to his Granny's for dinner. They were still there when I got off, so I went over and had some of Granny's yummy food. Then we came home and Harry finally got his Easter basket. I didn't go overboard, just a few little cars and some stacking cups. It was mind boggling to think that last Easter I was in the hospital trying to have him and just one year later....he is this amazing little boy. God has been so good to us, I struggle to put that in words!

I saw a 4th bottom tooth coming in when I was feeding him dinner tonight! That will make 8 total. He did so well with this round. I noticed him chewing a bit more on his toys, but that was about it! Next week is the big birthday...on the beach! WE CAN'T WAIT!!

Duh!

We stopped at the park on our walk yesterday!

Swinging away!

As we were taking a walk last evening (we are having beautiful weather here right now!) I realized my last post was pretty much all about the bad things going on in our lives and I had completely forgotten to write about some really cool things that had happened last week!

Even Oscar and Callie had fun at the park!

First of all, Harry has taken a few steps!! He has steadily become more solid on his feet and could bounce up and down and maybe take 1 teeny baby step. I stopped by Granny's house on Wednesday before I went to work to see Travis's family and I put him on the floor to see if he would show them the solo baby step. To my shock, he took 3 steps toward me! I was like...did he just do that?!?? It was so cool, but I was really sad that Travis missed it! He did it this afternoon after we got home from church. We are really gonna be in for it soon!

Secondly, Harry started saying peek-a-boo last week! Actually, that was a bit of a misstatement--he says "pika....bah!" It is just about the cutest thing ever! He has been such a babbler this week, I can't wait to see what comes out of his mouth next!

My little guy is getting so big!
