Stand Up!

Look at my little guy!!

Sorry for the lack of posts this past week...it has been a little hectic around here! The dance team association I judge for had regionals last weekend and state yesterday so I have been busy with that. Work has been really crazy too! We have had a high census and we are training a new pharmacist on top of that. Don't get me wrong...I'm so glad we finally found someone but it is so hard to get someone trained and keep everything flowing smoothly at the same time. Travis has also been really busy at work with appointments and the like. Harry had to go to Katrina's 4 times this week...an all time record!

Anyway, enough about us, on to my little man! As you can see...he can stand up unassisted for short periods of time!! It seems like he wants to try to take a step, but it causes him to topple over if he moves. It is so cute. It seems like it just happened all of a sudden this past week. I was putting him on the floor to play and instead of bending his knees and going straight to his bottom like usual, he kept his legs straight, I let go, and he stayed upright. We are gonna be so in for it in the not to distant future!!

Aren't I just too cute??

Chasing his doggy and kitty

Just when I start to think Harry hadn't really changed that much lately, he amazes me like he did last week. He pulled out the whole standing thing which was awesome, and then it seemed like his personality changed overnight as well! I especially noticed his actions changing at daycare. He has never seemed too upset about being there except for the occasional cry when we drop him off. I guess I can explain it best by saying that he didn't mind being there. However, this last week, as soon as we get there his face lights up when he sees the kids. If you put him down on the floor he gets right in the mix and heads off to the toys he likes to play with. It has really helped me with some guilt about going back to work. Not only does he tolerate daycare, he LOVES it!! I don't think we could have found a better fit for us. The kids are all so loving and careful with him and he has even attached to his buddy Ethan who is almost two. They are the 2 youngest there so they have to stick together!! He also used to babble a lot, now it seems like he chatters constantly! Say hello to my little social butterfly!

We sent Daddy and Uncle Chris to the Boat and Travel show today while we stay home and catch up the laundry. I owed him one for being gone all day yesterday! We hope you had a great weekend!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

My Favorite Valentine
I just wanted to take a sec to post some pictures I took of Harry's first Valentine's Day. Needless to say, we didn't do much! I can't remember the last time I didn't leave the house in 2 days!! We didn't even exchange presents because we were both going to go get them Monday or Tuesday but we got wrapped up in buying the car on Monday and after that we were snowed in. We will make it up to Harry and each other this weekend though! Nana and Poppy came through like usual...Harry got a new book and tray and we got a Target gift card! Tomorrow we get back to normal finally! Travis and I are both headed back to work and Harry is going to Katrina's to hang out with his buddies. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!

Thank you for my gifts, Nana and Poppy!!

Snow Day

Look at all of that snow!!

We feel like we're in high school again....we are having a snow day!! It has been snowing and sleeting like mad all day today. I'm not exactly sure how much we have, but the news has been reporting that areas around us have received 12 inches and we are under a blizzard warning! Crazy stuff. My wonderful boss volunteered to work all day today, spend the night at the hospital, and work tomorrow morning until another co-worker could get in. That is one good thing about working with all guys...they are gentlemen and they don't like me doing dangerous things! So they told me to stay home tomorrow too! Yippie! We have had the best day today. We lounged around most of the morning, and when Harry went down for his afternoon nap (he slept for over 2 hours!), we got busy and cleaned the house. It was so easy with both of us here and with no little crazy man to chase around. Travis also made us some brownies and I cooked a big dinner. We didn't leave the house at all except to shovel off the driveway and a spot for the dogs a few times today. I know being cooped up in the house and cooking and cleaning may not sound like fun to most, but it was great! Since the option of going out to do something was pretty much taken away today (even all of the malls are closed, gasp!!) we made the most of being bums at home!

I'm ready to go sledding!

Travis got a new car yesterday just in time for it to be parked in the garage all day! He got a silver 2004 VW Passat. It is very nice and hopefully much better on the snow than his BMW. He really loved his Beamer, but it was really hard to take the little guy around in it since it was so small and dangerous if the roads were wet at all.

Harry's new car! Don't laugh too much...we had to think of something to do all day!

We hope everyone enjoys the big snow and is safe and warm inside!!

Brrr, It's Cold Outside!

by Sarah on February 9, 2007 at 06:49

Can you believe how cold it is??

We are finally in the midst of some real winter weather here! It has been FREEZING, actually a lot colder than freezing! The morning temps have been in the minuses, and on my drive to work yesterday, my gauge registered a balmy 8 degrees. Not fun, but it is making me really excited for our trip to Florida in a few months! We also got about 7 inches of snow on Tuesday just in time for my drive home. It was a very interesting trip, but luckily I made it home just fine and I was very glad I didn't have Harry with me. He was safe and sound at home with Daddy watching all of the pretty snow fall.

One thing that has made our hearts warm this week is our Colts victory in the Super Bowl!! We had all of our buddies over (Dad, George, Audra, Aiden, Chris, Scottie, Julia, Nate, Krista, Esther, Brooke, and Bryce) to watch the game and have a small feast. We had a lot of fun and to top it all of our team finally won the big game. Except for Scottie (a HUGE Bears fan) I think everyone else was happy with the outcome.

Harry is starting to mimic us a lot when we talk to him. It is really funny! I even got him to squeak out a "mama" the other day! Last night I was standing up and Harry crawled over to me, pulled up on my legs, looked up at me and said "Mommy!" as plain as day! Travis was even there to witness it so I'm not totally crazy. It, of course, completely melted my heart! He talks back and forth with us a lot, but the only decipherable words are dada, mama, hi, and baby. I usually give him a lotion bottle to hold when I am changing his diapers and he has a top-secret baby conversation with the bottle. It usually goes something like "Uh gah lob a lob a lob" so it must be something only he and the bottle can understand!!

Showing off his "Milk Built This Body T-shirt"

You're darn right it did!

We reached another growing up milestone this week. I am no longer nursing Harry. My milk production had sharply decreased for some reason the past few weeks. I judged a dance contest on January 20th so I was away from home for about 12 hours, and I can remember I was about to burst by the time I got home. I'm not sure what could have happened in the last few weeks, but I hadn't been feeling full and I had even stopped pumping at work. Monday I was feeding him before he went down for a nap and he clamped down on me like a vice grip. It was soooo painful! He had bitten me before, mainly when he was tired, but never like this. I had always thought I would know when it was time to quit, and I think that was my sign! I thought we would be able to hang on until he was a year, but it just wasn't worth the frustration for either of us. I'll have to admit, I am a little sad and disappointed about it. I don't like not meeting my goals! This whole experience was a great surprise to me. I entered into motherhood with very litlle child care experience, so I had no idea what to expect. I really only decided to breast feed because intellectually I knew it was best for the baby, not because I felt drawn to do it. I decided to give it an honest attempt, and if it didn't work out I didn't wan't to beat myself up over it. Then when things were going well and it was time for me to go back to work, I bought a pump to take to work with me...something I wasn't planning on doing! Then I thought, I could probably do this until he is 6 months! Six months came and went, and we kept on with no definite end in sight. The most pleasant thing about all of this was that it just wasn't a big deal like I thought it would be. I know a lot of people are uncomfortable about breastfeeding and I have even heard some describe it as "gross". It was the exact opposite of that to me, it was just natural. Like that was how it was supposed to be. I loved knowing that for the first 18 months of his life both inside and outside, I alone was his main source of nourishment. It was a really cool experience and I feel really blessed that it went as well as it did. Now I can look forward to having my body all to myself again, that is until we are ready for #2!!

Loving Nap Time!

Harry has been sleeping tremendously well this past week, even making it all the way through the night at times!! Yay! He is even napping twice daily pretty routinely either in the car or in his crib if we are at home. I love it! He even goes down very easily with very little crying. Just as the doctor predicted last week, he has another tooth popping through! It is on his top right just next to the front tooth. So that makes 4 on top, 2 on bottom. He is developing quite the toothy grin!! He is also the proud recipient of a freshly painted bedroom! Travis finally got fed up with our monochromatic paint scheme in our house and decided to paint his room Saturday night. It is about the same green that his old room was. He then just as quickly decided that we should hire someone to do the rest of the rooms! Ha! He had momentarily forgotton how much he hates to paint!!

New Room

Today's adventure is a big one. Travis is leaving work a few hours early today to help me take Oscar, Callie, and Roxy to the vet. That should be a wild 45 minute car ride to the office! Please pray for us!!

Rub-a-Dub-Dub, Our Boy LOVES the Tub!

by Sarah on February 2, 2007 at 06:49

Baby Bucket Head

Hooray, it's bath time!

I have neglected to post this for a really long time, but Harry loves bath time! We started to bathe him in the regular tub when we moved to our new house, and it has been one of his favorite activities since! It is so cute...he gets so excited for the bath to be ready, he stands by the side of the tub and squeals until it is time to get in. He even lifts his legs up like he is trying to step in. We had the most hilarious bath experience last night. I had the hiccups and everytime I would hiccup, he would just crack up. Then I would laugh, hiccup again, and the cycle just kept going on and on. I was a lot of fun. He cracks me up on a daily basis so I was glad to return the favor!

We had his 9 month check up today and as usual, everything was great! He didn't need any shots today, but he had to have his heel pricked to make sure his hemoglobin is within range. He cried a little but not too much. Dr. Freeman said he was perfect! Here are the stats:
  • Weight: 20 lbs 7 oz (60th percentile)
  • Length: 29 1/4 inches (90th percentile)
  • Head: 46 1/2 cm (75th percentile)

He stayed in the exact same percentile range for length and height, but his weight fell some percentiles once again. She thought it was perfectly fine considering he eats well and lord knows my boy is active! She also gave the okay for more table food, anything except peanuts, egg whites and honey. So, we stopped and got him a Happy Meal on the way home. Just kidding, he wishes!! We are once again soooo thankful that we have such a happy, healthy baby boy!

We got some sad news in our family this week. My Uncle Johnny (my dad's brother) passed away on Wednesday morning. It was somewhat unexpected. He was on the waiting list for a liver transplant so we knew he was very ill, but Tuesday evening he rapidly declined and eventually passed away a few hours later. Please keep my dad and his family (especially my almost 95 year old Granny!) in your thoughts and prayers.

On a lighter note, we hope everyone enjoys the big game this weekend and roots on our Colts to a victory! Have fun and be safe!
