Our Sweet Boy Mr. Harry turned nine months old on Wednesday. It's funny to look back on things...when I was pregnant with him, nine months seemed like an ETERNITY!! It is truly amazing to think what such a short period of time can accomplish. They start from one cell and grow to be 7 lb 10 oz amazing baby in the first nine, and then continue to grow by leaps and bounds to be a 20 pound, crawling, babbling, into everything, thriving, crazy little boy. And believe me, for that, we are unmeasurably grateful. Well, maybe not for the into everything, crazy part, but we love him to pieces anyway!
This past week has been somewhat of a challenge for us. Remember my post last week about how well Harry was sleeping and I felt oh so great?? As I feared, those moments definintely passed us by! True to Harry form, we have been up and down all night since last Friday night. I know it is just part of having a baby and I need to get a grip on that. I just suffer from horrendous Mommy guilt because I know I can't give him my all when I get home because I am so worn out from getting up early and working all day. To top it all off, Travis had to work late on Monday and Tuesday so it was just me and Bub on our own for those 2 nights. I'll save you all the gory details and sum it up by saying I was on the verge of having a cow. I just so wish that Harry shared his parents' love of sleeping through the night. I'm still keeping the faith that it will happen sometime, like probably when he's a teenager and fights us to get up for school and stuff. But it will happen, I'm convinced!
Yesterday we had a pretty good day. I was off (yay!) so we went to have lunch with Travis. Harry was adorable at lunch. They were playing The Beatles song Love Me Do and I started singing it to him. We were beating the table having a good time and he started shaking his head no no! I had never seen him do that before! I started doing it back to him which made him laugh and he did it back to me. So cute! Then when we got home and let the dogs out. When they came back in and attacked him as usual he started moving his tongue in and out like the dogs do when the lick! We had noticed him doing that before but I thought that he had just figured out that he could stick his tongue out. I was cracking up! Then Travis came home a few hours early and we went over to Muncie to get Harry's birth certificate (don't ask me why I had not done this before!! I don't have a good excuse.) and got the oil changed in our Odyssey. I know, that part doesn't sound like fun but it was good to spend some time together. I was a bit starved for some family time.
Speaking of the dogs, I think Harry is really starting to have so much fun with them. He gets beside himself when they chase him. He loves for anyone to chase him but when Oscar and Callie do it, it's especially funny! It also totally cracks him up when they fight and chase each other. He also tries to "pet" them which usually involves one or both of them nearly getting injured with clumsy baby fingers and hands. For the most part, they are both really good with him. I know they get annoyed with him sometimes, mostly when he pulls their hair or tries to get in their food. But they love to shower him with puppy kisses and he gladly receives them for a second until Travis and I break it up.
One last funny story about Harry...he is becoming a little biter! He tries to bite things (unfortunately, usually me!) out of frustration. The other night Travis was preventing him from getting into the fireplace which made him mad, so he crawled over to me and tried to bite my leg! I saw him coming so I stopped him so then he grabbed Oscar's fur instead! Last night he was trying to stand up by the TV and bang on the screen. When Travis stopped him from doing that, he crawled over to me. I thought he was just getting tired and cranky and needed a hug. So I scooped him up and promply got bit on the shoulder! He only does it when he is tired for the most part. He also cops this little attitude that I try not to laugh at, but it is pretty funny. Poor little kid, he actually thinks he can overtake his Mom and Dad. Ha! Oh wait, he usually can. Darn! The cuteness factor usually prevails!
