Welcome to the World, Little Guy!!

Well, after 40 weeks and 2 days of waiting, hoping, getting bigger (all three of us!), our first born son is finally here! It has been 11 days since Harry's birth, and we are all finally getting settled into a routine of sorts. I'll give you a brief rundown of the events of the past week and a half.

Easter Sunday 4-16-2006: My water broke at 8am! Travis and I were so surprised! We had given up hope that I would go into labor before my scheduled induction on Thursday 4-20. We arrived at the hospital around 9:30 am and they started me on Pitocin around noon to start some stronger contractions. To make a long story short, the first round of Pitocin didn't work, they turned it off for a few hours and restarted it again around midnight or so. Just when we thought we would have a little Easter Bunny, we realized it was most likely going to be the next day that he would come!

Monday 4-17-2006: The Pitocin finally started to work and I got an epidural at around 3 in the morning. My nurse (the 3rd one I had!) checked me at around 7:30am and I was ready to start pushing at around 7:45am. Sticking with the theme that nothing about this labor was going as planned, I pushed for about 3 1/2 hours (with a 30 min. break thrown in there) and still no baby. I had to wear oxygen for a little while because the baby's heart rate dropped during some of the contractions. Finally my new hero Dr. Voss came in to assess the situation, whipped out the vacuum, and our son was here with the next contraction! Harrison Webb Callaway weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. and was 20 1/2 inches long. He had some chubby cheeks, one of Mommy's dimples, and a double chin (Daddy's?? : ) ) And did I mention that he was absolutely perfect and exceeded any dream we could have possibly had about him??

After our time at the hospital, things have gone relatively well. He had to go back to the hospital twice since we left for a blood test for jaundice, and everything turned out okay. He is nursing extremely well, he has a very, shall we say, healthy digestive tract (he surely gets that from his dad and Uncle Chris!!), and seems pretty content for the most part. He enjoys being held, swaddled, going on walks, and wetting on everything! Even all of our pets have taken to him with no injuries or catastrophes! We are all so happy and blessed with such a beautiful child. I'm not sure how we did it...it must have been Mommy's morning Jack's donut and Diet Coke at work!

Sleepy Little Guy!!

Take Me Home!!
